This Is Not Just Fashion, This Is A Statement: SB19’s Trilogy Outfits Are The PH Flag Colors

It is no secret that SB19 are proud of their Filipino lineage. As P-pop royalty, they represent the Filipino culture, style, and way of life in their high-octane performances. From their fashion sense during their on-stage shows to their casual wear, they turn heads wherever they go.

What you may not realize, however, is that their outfits reflect a more patriotic symbol. The colors of their outfits during the covers for their EPs (Extended Play) “Pagsibol,” “Pagtatag,” and “Simula at Wakas” all resemble the colors of the National Flag of the Philippines. Whether this was a total coincidence or not, the resemblance is uncanny and makes sense looking back at their career. It also hints at their journey of growth as a group.

“Pagsibol” and the humble blue beginnings

Pagsibol in English means “to sprout,” which also refers to SB19 debuting. For the EP, SB18 dressed in mostly blue outfits, which usually represent depth, stability, and the spark of growth. Just like how they started in their young career, the EP carried themes of starting fresh, embracing challenges, and planting seeds for their future.

Just like how the blue in the Philippine flag symbolizes peace and unity, their outfit color reflects the group’s steady foundation. Although they had a rocky start during their early career, their calm and determined spirit helped pave their way in the industry. Their efforts weren’t in vain, as they would go on and gain early success.

“Pagtatag” white, gold, and the freedom of expression

The white in the Philippine flag symbolizes liberty, equality, fraternity, and freedom. These characteristics are found within SB19 during their “Pagtatag” EP as they transitioned to white-gold for their outfit. It is also a great fit as the English definition of “Pagtatag” is to build or establish.

During this era of their journey, it was about constructing their legacy and solidifying their artistry with powerful tracks that spoke of battles, victories, and perseverance. It was also in this era that they would face their greatest hurdle in their career. They would face unforeseen circumstances that would strain and reduce the group’s activities.

Much like the characteristics of their symbolic white motif, however, they would soon express their freedom. The boys would explore solo projects in the meantime and hone their craft. They wanted to establish themselves and mature as artists. Their journey has been documented in their Netflix documentary, which we have a feature on, which you can read about here.

This would turn out to be one of their most fruitful endeavors as they would return, bolder, stronger, and even more unified.

“Simula at Wakas” passionate red and their many accolades

During their comeback, for their EP “Simula at Wakas,” SB19 donned the color red. It symbolizes passion, courage, and sacrifice: something the boys know truly well. After everything they have been through, they rise from the ashes like a blazing phoenix. The EP showcases themes of embracing closure while bravely facing new beginnings, driving oneself forward, and hope.

The color red fits the boys when you look at it, as it symbolizes the Philippine flag as well. It represents the valor of the Filipino people and the pride the boys feel for their home country. They pride themselves on representing not just P-pop, but also the country and its culture, people, and values. Every performance hints at many easter eggs as they encourage A’TIN to take a closer look. Their hard work and determination have led them to many accolades over the years, and their fans continue to support them. We also have a feature that you can read here.

Closing thoughts

SB19 is a truly talented group that shows their journey through the outfits they wear for their EPs. Coincidence or not, their colors match the values that represent the majestic flag of the Philippines. Their journey from the bottom to the top is reflected, too, as if they predict the trajectory of the boys.

As always, SB19 always pushes the boundaries of P-pop as their upcoming “Fast Zone” concert will be the first “Fashion Concert” taking place on October 26, 2025, at the Araneta Coliseum.
