If you’ve been following fan pages and SB19 groups, whether for a while or even just a few days, chances are, you have already read the term “Uwi na, kaps.” You might have read it in the comment sections that are already heating up, or just when fans are telling other fans to go home to their respective houses.
It seems fairly self-explanatory, but for A’tin, what does it really mean?
Before we take a closer look at its first online usage, we need to understand what “uwi na, kaps” even means. It is a combination of uwi na and kaps. Uwi na is a phrase in Tagalog meaning to go home and/or to rest.
Kaps is short for kapatid, a term that means “sibling.” The word is also often used in replacement of “ate / kuya” or sister / brother. This term is widely used by A’tin when they meet or talk to their fellow A’tin.
While it was said that SB19 themselves mentioned the line, the phrase was first mentioned in SB19’s Reddit page. One Reddit user, who has since deleted their account, posted their thoughts at the time about feeling for the boys being bashed by critics and haters, as they felt as if they were also being attacked. A fellow Reddit user named u/yesmamsir chimed in and offered their support, mentioning by the end:
“Nung sinabi nilang “uwi na A’tin”, it means tama na, it’s not worth everyone’s headache and heartache. Hope you feel better kaps. 🙂” – u/yesmamsir on Reddit
It just goes to show how A’TIN will come together to uplift others when they are feeling low. That is how tight-knit the community is. The phrase would see much use from then on in other posts to comfort fellow A’TIN so they can step away and recharge. In other posts, it is used to politely halt over-analysis or negativity in comment sections. Over time, the phrase would also become a friendly way to end live-chat sessions, fan hangouts, or Q&A streams.
A’TIN also used it on Josh
In more recent news, A’TIN had to use the phrase on Josh who had been getting heated against bashers on Twitter/X during the rally that took place in the Philippines on September 21, 2025. He was having back and forth arguments with them as he was passionate about what was happening in his home country at that time.
At first, it was more light-hearted. A’tin we’re commenting and saying how lucky the basher was for getting a reply from Josh. Until it became apparent that we have to tell Josh, “Uwi na, amo”fa
In a humorous note, one user had to step in as they posted a meme telling Josh a variation of the phrase as it was getting out of hand. It just goes to show that even if SB19 are outstanding people, they are still human beings. When A’TIN gets out of hand, SB19 will gladly steer them back in the right direction. The same can also be said for the boys. It is only because the connection of the group with the fans is very tight-knit that they have such an awesome relationship with one another and holds each other accountable.
Another use of “Uwi na, kaps”
As you probably already know, within the fandom, there are five houses. We’ll delve deeper into these in the upcoming posts, but for now, here is a summary.
Member
What their fans are called
Where their fans go home to
Pablo
Hotdog
Freezer
Josh
BBQ
Ihawan
Stell
Berries / Strawberry
Farm
Ken
Sisiws
Manukan
Justin
Mais / Corns
Maisan / Cornfield
Another common phenomenon in the fandom is not having just one bias. Ask an A’tin and you’ll probably hear them say that they have one bias and the other four members are their bias-wrecker. Or sometimes, they won’t even have one bias; they just love all five equally.
This was especially rampant during 2024 when the boys were exploring their solo careers, but it happens on a daily basis too. A’tin would say “Nahatak ako ni ___” saying they were drawn to the house of another member that wasn’t originally their bias.
For example, I am a sisiw, as you can probably tell from my pen name. But during their solo season, everytime Josh drops a post or has an event, I would spend the day in the Ihawan. When Pablo drops (lapag) a post the next day, I would stay there and be drawn to Pablo. But at the end of the day, I will still go home to Manukan.
So this is another use of “Uwi na, kaps.” Say I was spending time on the farm, and then Ken suddenly drops a post, my fellow A’tin would tell me, “Uwi na, kaps. Hanap ka na ng amo mo.”
Closing thoughts
Whether on a daily basis or when battling bashers, the phrase “Uwi na, kaps” will always be present and will always bring comfort to us, A’tin. When things become heated, you can be sure that other fellow A’TIN will reign the others back, urging them to calm down to de-escalate tensions. This is because SB19 doesn’t want to promote hate and anger within the community.
This message from the boys rippled through the fanbase and has become a wholesome way to calm down arguments in comments sections, whether they are fiercely defending their mahalima or whether they bicker among themselves for whatever reason. One thing is for certain, if you ever feel that you need to step away for your mental health, uwi na, kaps.
