Artificial Intelligence: You either love to use it or hate seeing it everywhere. Since its creation to automate the manufacturing of industrial products, it has become an amazing tool for creativity. While it is powerful and very smart, it has some drawbacks, some of which can affect the careers of SB19 and A’TIN, as well as their protection. Think of it this way: It is so much easier now to create a video or audio clip that looks and sounds authentic to the untrained eye, despite the members never saying anything close to what is being said.
Imagine SB19 endorsing and spreading some scam product or releasing a false statement. It gets passed around as if it comes directly from them, and some unfortunate fan does not realize the video is fake. Even when the truth comes out, the damage to the reputation of SB19 and A’TIN has already been tarnished.
With a fandom that is built on trust, A’TIN simply wants to build their connection with their beloved mahalima through genuine connection. Some may turn to A.I. out of playful curiosity and only use it for themselves. The problem comes when they begin to share it, and others don’t realize what they are seeing is not real. If A.I. fakes begin to circulate, multiple issues arise, which are and are not limited to:
Misleading fake videos / audio
A.I. can be used to generate deepfake videos that make it as if SB19 or a member is saying or doing something they didn’t do. It can be used to spread fake endorsements, false rumors, or damaging statements that collectively and individually harm their reputation.
Damaged reputation for SB19 and A’TIN
Anyone can potentially generate a fake clip of one of the members behaving badly or endorse a scam product. Even if the truth already comes out, it becomes problematic just trying to fix their reputation as misinformation often sticks in people’s minds.
Exploitation for profit or scams
There have been many instances where the likenesses of celebrities are used to sell items, promote scams, or persuade people to give scammers money. Deepfakes have become remarkably adept at replicating likenesses.
Lack of consent and control
Artists may not consent to their image, voice, or likeness being used in AI-generated content. Once spread, it could be repurposed, shared, and edited broadly. It becomes very invasive and violates many personal rights, as it is one of the reasons artists are not fond of using AI in any sort of media.
Legal / privacy implications
Using another person’s likeness without permission is a violation of privacy rights, trademark, or publicity, or in some cases, defamation laws. In the Philippines, awareness is growing around these case,s and legal efforts are beginning to target these kinds of abuses, giving people some protection against them.
Closing thoughts
SB19 and A’TIN’s connection to one another is forged by authenticity. That is why their relationship is special. With it, the boys can work hard to express their real selves, and A’TIN genuinely shares their undying love and support. By protecting that authenticity, we become mindful of everything we see and share online.
